Eligibility Requirements

You must either:

Qualify as a first-generation college student (neither parent has attained a bachelor's degree) and meet low income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education.

OR

Be a member of a group that is underserved in graduate education.

You must also:

1. Have U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident as definined below:
• U.S. Citizen
• U.S. National (includes natives of American Samoa or Swain's Island
• Permanent Resident (U.S. permanent resident who has an I-151, I-551, or I-551C)
• Eligible Non-Citizen (Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service)
• Not eligible are holders of student visas (F1, F2, J1, and J-2 Visas)
2. Have at least sophomore standing at SHSU

3. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at SHSU
