As advancements in medical care continue to rely on specialized medical equipment, there is a growing need for people to purchase, inspect, install, repair, and manage medical devices and systems. The Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology with a Concentration in Biomedical Engineering Technology (BMET) at SHSU assists students in joining an ever-growing industry with the expertise and skills needed to succeed.
SHSU’s Bachelor of Science program teaches students to apply information and engineering technology principles to specialized medical equipment and equipment systems. With hands-on instruction, courses provide students with the proficiency to properly design, maintain, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot biomedical equipment, including safety checks and enacting data security and privacy measures.

- Inspect, test, and calibrate lifesaving medical equipment

Internships
The internship program is intended to provide experience-based learning opportunities for students in their respective discipline of study. Students generally seek internship experience at the end of their junior or senior year. Internships may be arranged through student contact with providers or through departmental faculty and staff announcements and postings. All internships must receive departmental approval through application prior to the initiation of the internship.

- Fred Pirkle Scholarship Endowment
- No less than $5,000 if awarded; awarded to qualifying full-time undergraduate or graduate students majoring in a discipline with a curriculum dedicated to Engineering Technology; maintain a minimum GPA of 2.50.
