Letter From The President
Traditions are critical in developing connections to our cultural identity. They help communicate who we are and what we stand for. In a dynamic environment, traditions, which are rooted in long-standing beliefs, can provide the foundational stability needed in order to successfully integrate change for the future.
At Sam Houston State University, we have a distinguishable culture that has been sustained for more than 139 years. While so much has changed during the past century, our fundamental values, which include enduring traditions, have withstood the test of time.
Throughout this issue of Heritage Magazine, many of our traditions, both past and present, are profiled. Behind the stories and images, is a very clear message; at the heart of our traditions lies a profound commitment to students and our university community.
