The PAL Position and Rationale
The use of performance-based methods to assess the leadership capacities of pre-service and in-service educational leaders can improve individual student achievement and overall preparation program effectiveness
Performance-based assessment of leadership skills provides a variety of benefit:
- Skills and content that is learned and applied, not just what is taught, is what is measured
- Educational leadership professors report they enjoy teaching more and experience greater rewards when performance- based measures are used
- Because performance -based assessments are increasingly used by teachers with students in elementary and secondary schools, the use of similar measures with educational leaders in preparation programs provides continuity and consistency of practice.
