Set up a Bank Account
Now that you are a student in the U.S., it is important to have a U.S. bank account. Having a U.S. bank account will not only make it easier to pay for things like groceries or rent, it will also allow you to receive money. If you are ever owed money from SHSU (for example, to return your housing deposit or refund you for an overpaid fee statement), the university will send the funds to your U.S. bank account.
Wells Fargo- In addition to the Allpoint ATMs, you will also find Wells Fargo ATMs on campus. See information about how to set up a checking account online HERE.
First National Bank of Huntsville- Although there are no First National Bank of Huntsville ATMs on campus, there is a bank location within walking distance of campus (on 11th Street). Read more about their checking account types HERE.
First Convenience Bank- No car? No problem! First Convenience Bank is located inside the Huntsville Walmart (you can use the Kat Tracks shuttle to get to Walmart). See their checking account options HERE.
There are other banking options in Huntsville and around the Houston metro area. Feel free to research and choose the bank of your choice. The aforementioned banks are just options.
Note: Some banks may ask you to submit a copy of your social security card (SSN) or U.S. driver’s license. As an international student, you may not have those items (yet). Just tell the bank that you are an international student, they should have a list of acceptable alternatives for identification.
