From the Desk of the VP

Over the last year, it has been a privilege to serve as the Interim Vice President for the Division of Information Technology. In that time, we worked hard to improve the way IT supports our university, to create transparency, and to empower our team to be able to do amazing work.  I think we have built a good foundation together and are well-positioned to make the next set of changes necessary to transform IT.

I hope you have noticed improvement in IT, but our work is really just beginning to build the IT organization Sam Houston needs and deserves.  As you may have heard, there are a number of things changing in IT that I feel will help us take the next steps towards becoming the organization we can be.  I believe we are in a once-in-a-career moment when things are becoming possible that we have all hoped for.  Much of this is driven by the strategic planning going on across campus and the clarity and focus that creates.

One of the great things about IT is the team that we get to be part of.  From the vision and leadership that Senior Vice President for Strategic Enrollment and Innovation Heather Thielemann provides, to our wonderful colleagues across the IT Leadership Team, to our exceptional staff, it is a distinct privilege to get to work with this team and I am truly looking forward to what comes next.

As part of these changes, my title will change to allow me to continue serving SHSU as its Chief Information Officer. I am excited about this new role and the trust Dr. Thielemann has placed in me to perform it.

I remain at the University’s service and am happy to discuss anything we can do to make things better for Sam Houston.  Please do not hesitate to reach out and to share your thoughts on what we can do to contribute to helping SHSU fulfill its mission.
