Letter from the President
Volumes have been written on what makes a person successful, a leader. In fact, there is an entire industry built on counseling and coaching people to become more successful in their careers and personal life. At Sam Houston State University, our focus includes creating and fostering a learning environment that both stimulates the mind and helps to develop those attributes that contribute to success and effective leadership.
Good leadership does not just happen, it is developed over time by identifying and putting into practice success-oriented behaviors.
In other words, leadership is defined by our actions and those actions can lead to success. Recognized as a great leader, our namesake, Sam Houston, set an example that we continually strive to emulate in our actions. In this issue of Heritage magazine, we touch on a few of the exceptional illustrations of leadership that can be found across campus. From academic programs, student success initiatives, teaching excellence, service to alumni and faculty accomplishments; you will find that Sam Houston State University is leading by example.
