Michael T. Stephenson (Ph.D., University of Kentucky, 1999) is Provost and Senior Vice President and Professor of Communication Studies at Sam Houston State University. He previously served in various capacities at Texas A&M University as well as the University of Missouri. His primary research focus is on the media’s role in changing or reinforcing health behavior. His research was recognized in seven “Top Paper” awards at national and international communication conferences. He has authored or co-authored over 40 peer reviewed publications and book chapters. His research has been funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Division of Transplantation, and he has consulted on research projects funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
